On this date in 1806, United States Army Lt. Zebulon Pike was leading a survey team across the newly-acquired Louisiana Purchase territory when he spotted a snow-capped mountain rising above the prairie in the distance. The mountain became known as Pikes Peak, after Lt. Pike. Pikes Peak or Bust became the slogan for many wagon trains headed west in the 1880's, and in 1883, inspired by the view from the top of the mountain, a Colorado College teacher named Katherine Lee Bates wrote America the Beautiful.

On this date in 1926, the book, Winnie the Pooh, made its debut. Alan Alexander Milne wrote the Winnie the Pooh stories, centering the tales around his little son, Christopher Robin and Christopher's stuffed animals like the honey-loving Pooh Bear, Eeyore the donkey, Piglet, and Tigger too.

On this date in 1999, an 18-month-old baby girl got away from her parents and fell off a suspension bridge in Vancouver, Canada. She fell 230 feet and landed on a rocky ledge below. The rescue team that descended into the canyon to retrieve her little body found her alive and crying. She survived the 230-foot fall with some bruises but no broken bones or serious injury. Doctors who examined her called it a miracle. Today let's celebrate God's love and protection.
