Today is Monday, December 9. Today is National Noodle Ring Day, and we are on regular schedule.

Happy Birthday today to Noah Thomason.

On this date in 1934, the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants played in the NFL championship game. Freezing temperatures in New York and freezing rain the night before had frozen the stadium field, and players on both teams had trouble not sliding around. At halftime, one of the Giants' coaches went to nearby Manhattan College and borrowed nine pairs of basketball shoes. In the third quarter, with the Bears leading 13-3, he got back with the shoes and the Giants players switched from their cleats to the borrowed basketball shoes. With their improved traction, the Giants dominated the rest of the game, scoring 27 unanswered points to win the championship 30-13.

Congratulations to our Cavalier varsity football team on a fine season. The Cavaliers fell 33-31 to Catholic New Iberia in the state semifinal round Friday night. Thank you, players and coaches for representing CBA well this year.

Today is Monday, November 11. Today is Veterans Day and we are on regular schedule.

On this date in 1918, the Great War, known to us as World War I, came to an end with the signing of an armistice at 11:00 a.m. on this, the 11th day of the 11th month. Today was declared a national holiday by Congress as a recognition of World War I, but as America fought more wars and more Americans died defending freedom, Veterans Day has become a time to remember all the wars and the sacrifices of all the men and women who have served in America's Armed Forces through the years.

Today's date also marks the anniversary of the Pilgrims arriving in America in 1620 and the signing of the Mayflower Compact, which gives thanks and glory to God and dedicates this land to the advancement of the Christian faith. The Mayflower Compact played an important role in developing our United States Constitution.

On this date in 1999, an 18-month-old baby girl got away from her parents and fell off a suspension bridge in Vancouver, Canada. She fell 230 feet and landed on a rocky ledge below. The rescue team that descended into the canyon to retrieve her little body found her alive and crying. She survived the 230-foot fall with some bruises but no broken bones or serious injury. Doctors who examined her called it a miracle. Today let's celebrate God's love and protection.

Tuesday will be Middle School Back-to-School night. The start time for Tuesday night will be 6:00.

Next Tuesday we will be on chapel schedule, with grade level homecoming meetings in the auditorium. Middle school will meet at 8:50, followed by the high school at 9:45.

Middle school softball tryouts will be right after school next Wednesday. Tryouts will be from 3:30 - 4:45 at the high school softball field.

There will be an information meeting on August 27 for juniors and seniors who are interested in this year's Spring Break trip to Washington D.C.. That meeting will be at 6:00 in the Cafeteria.
